UTV Registration

Ordinance 1469 permits the recreational use of Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs) within the city limits. Prior to driving a UTV in town, it must be registered with the City of Tonganoxie. The Tonganoxie Police Department ensures the UTV is equipped with a roll over protection system, properly functioning headlights, tail lights, and brake lights. A steering wheel (no handle bars) is required, as well as a safety harness/seat belt for each passenger. The UTV must have a minimum weight of at least 1,000 pounds. You must provide proof of Liability Insurance and verification you paid personal property tax (or applicable exemption).

Prior to paying for registration, the UTV owner must respond to the Tonganoxie Police Department and our officers will ensure the UTV possesses the aforementioned requirements.

Walk-ins are welcome, but staff may not be able to accommodate you if there are pending calls for service. Appointments are preferred.

Following your visit to the Tonganoxie Police Department, you must respond to City Hall to pay the $200.00 UTV registration fee. Thereafter, a sticker must be affixed to the UTV on the bottom drivers side windshield or driver’s front fender.
